Did you know...The Longhorn originally had many purposes including draught, beef and milk.  It was known for it's very high quality milk, it was actually believed more butter could be produced from Longhorn milk than from the same amount of milk from any other cattle breed.  The breed was renowned for the high butterfat of its milk which was used in the making of famous cheeses like Stilton and Red Leicester. This high butterfat is also what gives their calves a wonderful 'bloom' and a great start to life. However, today the Longhorn is now used mainly for beef, which has a unique  intramuscular fat/marbling throughout the meat that produces succulent, tender and flavourful beef! To find out more about the Longhorn breed or to try longhorn beef for yourself, have a look at the Longhorn Cattle Society.
